Ras Lanuf oil terminal is located in the Gulf of Sidrah (the Sirte Gulf). Tobacco products, alcoholic drinks, perfume, arms and ammunition have to be locked up under customs seal until time of leaving territorial waters. Any vessel over 20 years of age may be rejected. Local winds, known as ghiblis or ghibli, reach up to 45kn from SE to SW and are frequent throughout the year. Winds in the area are generally unpredictable and can reach up to 70kn.
